Yahoo! Sports Reporting Magic Have Had Preliminary Trade Discussions with Lakers on Dwight Howard

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Orlando Magic have had preliminary trade discussions with the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and Brooklyn Nets regarding Dwight Howard. Wojnarowski writes that while no formal deal has been presented to the Magic from the Lakers, there’s no question that the deal will have to include Andrew Bynum.

Sources say the Magic told teams over the weekend that they will begin discussing proposals for Howard. The Nets, however, aren’t necessarily the best option for Howard, despite Brooklyn being his preferred destination.

The Rockets have been rumored in wanting Howard, even without a long-term commitment.

I think the Magic should have made the rumored Draft night deal for Kyle Lowry and draft picks, but now I believe they should ship him out to LA and bring in Bynum. One thing is clear, the team needs to make a move, and fast.

Update #1 Tuesday July 3 2:35 p.m.

Jarrod Rudolph of RealGM is reporting via his source that the Lakers are prepared to offer Andrew Bynum and Metta World Peace to the Magic for Howard, only if Howard signs an extension.

Rudolph also suggests the Magic would include Jason Richardson in any deal. Rudolph points out that since Richardson and Howard are both represented by Dan Fegan, they’d deal J-Rich so they don’t have to deal with Fegan anymore. Rudolph made sure to say that these are just rumors and nothing is imminent.
