Auburn Shooting Suspect Turns Himself In
Desmonte Leonard, accused of killing three people and wounding three others, has turned himself into police. Leonard turned himself into U.S. Marshals at the federal court house in Montgomery late Tuesday night. This happened after police officials were involved in a stand off with a person believed to be Leonard on Monday night and partially into Tuesday morning.
Leonard is accused of killing three people, including two former Auburn University football players, and injuring three others. Tips were received by police on Monday about a possible sighting of Leonard at a house, where the stand off took place. Police were at this home for more than six hours, even releasing tear gas into the home. Police at the time believed that the person inside was either dead or wearing a gas mask, but it was later discovered the person escaped just before the raid took place.
Leonard will be moved to Opelika, near the university, for his first court appearance on Wednesday or Thursday.
