Dwight Howard Out Tonight Versus Hawks, Flies to Los Angeles for Second Opinion on Back While Set to Host a Party in Orlando

Dwight Howard’s nickname, ‘Super Man,’ might take on a literal meaning today. News reports started Friday stating that he’ll be out for the game versus the Hawks at Amway Center, then said he’ll be flying to Los Angeles for a second opinion on his nagging back injury. Then Howard tweeted (which was later deleted) that he’ll be hosting a birthday party at a nightclub in Orlando Friday night.

Via Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel:

Dwight Howard has gone to Los Angeles with a member of the Orlando Magic’s medical staff to get a second opinion on his aching back […] Ed Manalo, the team’s physical therapist, accompanied Howard to Southern California, Magic spokesman Joel Glass said.

There appeared to be some confusion on whether or not Howard actually left for LA, but a Magic spokesman has confirmed it. I think Howard needs to take it easy these last few games so he can return at 100% when the playoffs start.

As for the hosting a party tonight, I think after really thinking about it, this isn’t really that big of a deal. If Howard was playing tonight there’d be no question that he would be at the club hosting this party.

People are saying, “Oh your back is well enough to host a party huh?” The fact that people are comparing hosting a party to playing in an NBA game is crazy. What do these people want? Dwight to rush this injury for a game against the Hawks when the playoffs start in a couple of weeks? That is crazy.

This isn’t just me jumping to save Dwight, we have definitely been critical of Dwight in the past so that’s not it. Move on. This is a non-issue.
