Quentin Richardson Doesn’t Care If LeBron is ‘The King’

Quentin Richardson and LeBron James

As I stated in my Miami Heat/Orlando Magic recap last night, Quentin Richardson and LeBron James got in a bit of a scuffle during the 104-100 Magic win. As we’ve seen from Q from before, he doesn’t care who you are, he’ll push back.

From Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel:

“That’s me. That’s just the way I play. Somebody push you, you push back,” Q-Rich said Wednesday night after the Magic’s preseason-ending win against the Heat at Amway Center.

James had glared at the Orlando bench after hitting a shot. Q-Rich slowed enough that James made contact, and then the 260-pound LeBron rammed his shoulder into Q as they walked down the court, and Q angrily responded.

It really should have been a double-technical foul, but refs caught Q retaliating and T’d him up.

“I don’t care if you’re The King or whatever,” Richardson laughed. “You put your pants on just like I do.

“He still got 27 points, but you have to let him know that he has to fight for them. That it ain’t gonna be a walk in the park.”

Here’s video of the incident:

I don’t think any of us know if anything was said to the Magic bench by LeBron, but I don’t really think that situation called for it. It’s not like the Heat were up by 23 (they were but the Magic came back), this incident happened in the third quarter when the Magic came back and made the game interesting. So I’m not sure why the glare over at the Magic bench. LeBron and Co. should know that no lead against the the Magic is a safe one, remember last March when the Heat were up 24 in the third quarter and lost? The Magic went on a 40-9 run over a 15-minute period of time to stun the Heat.

I’m  normally not a big fan of fighting in sports, but I believe this situation called for it. Sometimes players have to put LeBron in his place. I agree with Schmitz when he said it should have been a double technical call. LeBron clearly leaned into Q and pushed him a little. Q doesn’t care if he’s the King or not, “You put your pants on just like I do.”
