More Orlando Magic/Dwight Howard & Chris Paul Trade Rumors
Orlando Magic fans get used to this, because this year will be filled trade rumors, bogus updates, and exclusives from so-called sources, for not only the Magic, but the Hornets, and Nets as well. Deron Williams has already come out and said that he won’t sign an extension during the season, and will wait until the end of the year to evaluate his options. So if the Nets can’t pull off a blockbuster trade before the start of the season, they may want to consider trading him at the trade deadline. Dwight Howard and Chris Paul are still keeping their teams in the dark, but “sources” close to them are leaking out information to the media, that may or may not be true.
Considering the fact that this site is run by two Magic fans expect to see a lot of these updates during the season, until something actually happens.
Skip Bayless says Dwight will stay in Orlando:
Earlier in the week, on ESPN First Take, while discussing where he felt “the big three,” free agents would land, Skip said he thought Dwight would prefer to be a big fish in a small pond, as opposed to being the savior in one of the two biggest markets in the country, New York or Los Angeles, and he booked it that Dwight Howard would stay in Orlando. The Orlando Sentinel even picked up the story. Skip as he usually does after the show tweets about his stance from the show sent out this tweet:
Matt Barnes says Dwight wants to be a Laker:
In an interview with ESPN, Barnes says that he’s spoken with Dwight, and Baron Davis, of all people, who is likely to be cut by the Cavs using the amnesty clause, both want to be Lakers. That would be a pretty interesting mix, but unless Dwight comes straight out and says there’s nothing the Magic could do to resign him, which will never happen, I see them doing whatever they can to keep the big man in O-Town, and even though Barnes claims that this came directly from Dwight, there is no way Howard will ever own those words.
Chris Paul open to trade to the Magic, Clippers:
After many rumors popping up and being shot down this week about Chris Paul, including the Celtic rumors, which were shot down when it was announced that CP3 wasn’t interested in resigning with them. That was followed by a rumor that he had requested a trade to the Knicks, which was shot down almost immediately. There is now a rumor that CP3 is open to a trade to the Magic or Clippers. As a Magic fan I am hoping that Otis Smith does whatever it takes to make this happen. Even if it means renting him out for the rest of the year, I’d do it.
A lot of people say that the Magic don’t have the pieces, but I think a combination of Jameer Nelson, JJ Reddick, Brandon Bass, Ryan Anderson, and Daniel Orton, is a pretty respectable package. Whenever you trade a superstar you will never get a fair deal, but getting Jameer Nelson, who many people forget was an All-Star in 2009, is a respectable replacement for Paul. The Hornets could also send over the contract of Emeka Okafor, which still leaves them with their amnesty to use on another player. Obviously I’m biased on this situation so you know what I want to happen, but I want to know what you think will come from this years free agent to be situation? Hit the comments and let me know!
