Lupe Fiasco’s “Friend of the People” Mixtape Finally Out + Download Link

Front Cover

I had this feeling two years ago when “Enemy of the State” was released, the feeling of new Lupe Fiasco mixtape. Enemy of the State was released on Thanksgiving ’09 and this mixtape, “Friend of the People,” was set to be released one month later on Christmas day. Due to his training for the “Summit on the Summit” mountain climb, Lu cancelled the FOTP Christmas day release.

The Summit on the Summit climb took place on Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness for clean water worldwide. Lupe was joined by Jessica Biel, Isabel Lucas, and Kenna.

The day has finally come, Lupe has released this long-awaited mixtape. Hopefully on this tape Lupe can get back to his Food & Liquor days, the classic Lupe. Although his latest album, “Lasers,” debuted at Number 1 on the Hot 100, not too many were impressed by it. Atlantic Records wanted a mainstream album, which they got, and IMO doesn’t compare to his previous two efforts.

There has already been one song to leak off this mixtape, “Light Work.” This track features Lupe over Ellie Goulding “Lights” Bassnectar Remix. It will be interesting to hear the style Lu brings on this mixtape — whether these are songs left over from Lasers, or something to expect on the next album, Food & Liquor II. On Light Work Lupe shows flashes of a classic Lupe line:

“Funny how I’m only sick if you never catch a thing. Argue with your friends over what really the record means. Back and forth about its course, with professors refereeing.

With the release of this mixtape, Lupe launched, which includes the link to download FOTP. We have included the first link to the download below and you can also find it on Lupe’s Twitter. I would say the best place to find the link would be on Twitter, the first link usually crashes soon after its release. Enjoy your Thanksgiving with new Lupe Fiasco music!
